GCSE Results lead to record Sixth Form numbers at Harlington

Posted: 21st August 2025

We celebrate a year group whose historical progress was hampered at every step of the way; hence no national progress scores this year. With atainment only as a headline barometer we are pleased we had our own Year 6 and on-entry transition data that showcases the progress made since entry for this cohort.

Hit with the disruption of the pandemic across their crucial Year 6 and 7 developments, this then coupled with the disruption of the school move and restrictions across the old and new build for two years. All this is occurring at a critcal point for this cohort. This did not stop our Year 11, of 2025, outperforming their CATs (Year 7 Baseline testing) predictions. It is good to see that our amazing staff did not let this hamper the progress of this cohort.

This year has seen our greatest, of over 160, qualify directly into 6th Form, making this possibly our biggest 6th Form entry group to date.

The testament to this success is due in great part to all their teachers, all our staff working tirelessly behind the scenes and to all our parents and their constant support and positive communication with our teams. None of this would be possible without all of us working together.

A great well done to everyone and a massive thank you to all the parents for their belief and support alongside all our staff and especially the teachers who dedicated so much additional support, time and energy to ensure each and every child had the opportunity to succeed to be the best version of themselves.

Current 2025 headlines include over 65% securing a pass at English of grade 4 or above with 63% securing the pass in Math’s. The overall 4+ passes at GCSE including Math’s and English sits at 58%, lower than the national figure, but alongside our general grades they were higher than predictions and Year 7 benchmarking forecast from baseline testing for this year group in year 7.

With key grades up across English, Math’s and especially the Sciences, the future is looking very positive. With everything that has been in play this year, all the barriers that our students face, this has truly showcased keeping the main thing, their learning, has remained at the heart of what we do and now lives on as a testament for their future opportunities ahead.

“I am so happy with my results. I didn’t expect such great results, but I worked really hard and put in long hours and now seeing my results in front of me is so surreal. I’m going to study English, History, Politics and Economics at A Level and want to work towards a career in Law. All the staff were so supportive and encouraging, especially Mr Adams and Mr Kellher who were amazing. I can’t wait to start my next chapter”.

Avik Dasgupta – 2x 9’s and 5x 8’s

“My hard work paid off! I’m really happy, really proud and feel I can move forward to A Levels with confidence. I’m going to study Physics, Math’s and computer Science at Harlington sixth form and eventually would like to go to university to study Games Development. I’ve enjoyed my time so far at Harlington and am looking forward to joining sixth form. Thank you to all the staff for their never-ending support, particularly Mr Mahfuzh and Mrs Gibbs”.

In conclusion, I leave it to the words of Mrs Richards, who was the Head of Year for their time at Harlington with us. She remarks that:

“It has been my absolute privilege to be the Head of Year for this remarkable group of students since they joined us in Year 7. Watching them grow into the determined, resilient, and inspiring young people they are today has been an honour. I am incredibly proud of every single one of them, and they should be immensely proud of themselves too. Standing with them today, celebrating their achievements, is a memory I will cherish forever”.

We are therefore delighted that so many of them have chosen to continue their journey with us into Sixth Form, a clear testament to their trust, dedication and the strong foundations they’ve built here with us.
